300 Facebook likes Giveaway

I can't believe I've hit 300 facebook fans.  I never thought that would happen.

Less than two months ago I started this journey.

I was a lonely housewife with five kids.   Those of you who have kids know that you give them your all.  After that, there isn't much left for yourself.   Not much time for anything.

I've always been big on cooking, after all I'm from New Orleans.   Emeril Lagasse is my idol, my favorite chef by far.

I never saw myself baking.  It just wasn't my thing.....Unless it was a box of brownies or cake mix.  Baking was for my mom.  She didn't cake/cookie decorate, but she made some delicious desserts from scratch.

I dabbled a bit with baking when we were stationed in Germany.  One Wilton cake decorating class and I was hooked on cake decorating.  A few cakes and cupcakes later and I kind of stopped.  New babies sort of consumed my time.

After returning to Louisiana, my husband deployed.....again.

When his Aunt S sent out an email with bra and pantie cookies, I knew I just had to make them for my husband and the other deployed soldiers.

Took a look at the picture, found a recipe for cookies online and began the cookie process.  I used the Wilton royal icing recipe at that time.

The cookies were a hit with the soldiers.....why wouldn't they....they were lingerie....they've been looking at camouflage for months.

Everyone loved my cookies.

Then my youngest daughter had her first birthday and I took a hand at using fondant. It went well.

Next was my three year old was having a  birthday and she wanted a Tangled cake....I could not disappoint her, so I took my first try at a rice crispy tower on a cake....after all Cake Boss can do it right? Why not me.

Family and friends told me I should sell my cakes, but we are always our biggest critics.

I made two repeats of my bra and pantie cookies for an order and got the same thing.....you need to sell these. Still.....no faith here.

I stumbled upon The Adventures of Sweet Sugarbelle's and Bake at 350's blog pages.  Their cookies were so inspiring.  They are always very encouraging of their readers to take a try at baking.....so I did.

I made a few of Sugarbelle's designs and they came out great. She was my biggest inspiration.

Then there was the humorous blogger Confessions of a Cookbook Queen's blog. I felt like she was talking about me....a lot.  Everyone loves hearing her stories.....so she was the inspiration for starting a blog.

I owe these woman a lot.  SO they are the inspiration behind this giveaway.

The hardback cupcake book and cupcake bites represents the Cookbook Queen.

The cookie cutters represent Sugarbelle and Bake at 350.  If it wasn't for their inspiration I would have never started this blog or all this cookie-ing. Thank you ladies.  It gives me so much to look forward to each day.

Enough of me babbling......I do that a lot.....

  1. OK, I'll be first, I follow you on FB and on the blog, and both of the cakes in this post are amazing!
My children inspire me everyday, so I'm giving them the credit today. They amaze me with their kindness, random thoughts, craziness, and all around being a kid. They inspire me to remember-I'm their mama, and even if it's been a bad or hectic day, because of them, it's always a good day!

  3. Oh wow, that fondant cake is so cute! I have to tell you, my first fondant attempt was...less than stellar but the birthday girl loved it. That might be more due to it having chocolate liqueur in it and her being newly 21 haha.

I have so many inspirations. In dance, Sonya Tayeh. She makes me want to push my limits as a dancer. In cooking, there are so many. The bloggers than showed me I could expand my baking to more than just cookies. I have had my first couple of paid orders this year and I'm so excited about that! And in life, my preschool teacher has always been my biggest inspiration. She taught me how to be a better person and always pushed me to work harder, love more. She's in heaven now and things still remind me of her.

Ok, now I'm all teary, so I'll close this super long comment!

  4. My mother was a wonderful home maker, who is the most positive creative person I know and she is a great inspiration to me. While growing up I used to come home from school and could smell the freshly baked brownies, apple pies or my favourite lemon canary pudding, which she always served with a light vanilla sauce. ( A taste that has always stayed in my memory as I had never experienced anything quite like it then nor since) and find my mother in the kitchen either icing a cake or at the sewing machine making a new dress for us girls or out in the garden shed tending to her flowers or revamping furniture. She breathed new life into everything she did and still does. My mother is a talent artistic woman who could have been or done anything in her life but choose to spend it with us children. Because of our mother our home was a homely place to live in, always full of music laughter. This is how I have tried to live my life

  5. Well...where do I start? First of all, I accidentally stubmled upon the magazine AllYou while I was living in California. I tried one of their recipes and realized, I could actually bake! I had some bad turnouts, but my better ones were fullfilling. When I moved back to Cyprus, I threw a big party for my birthday/graduation/return and baked TONS of things. People were fighting over the last pieces of brownies, cookies, cake and whatever else I'd made. That was 2 years ago. Since then, everyone has been asking me to bake things for them. Until this past summer I came up with the idea that I should sell my things. Everyone keeps asking me for them, so maybe I should try and get the money for the ingredients at least.
Now I follow many blogs for inspiration, but if it wasn't for that subscription of AllYou Magazine that a little girl convinced me to get for her school, I would've never realized that I am good at this. Now, I'm trying to open my own little local bakery.
Thank you AllYou! For the inspiration and the first steps towards baking.

  9. OK I saw Bridget from Bake at 350 on the Pioneer Woman's blog a year ago. She showed us how to decorate sugar cookies so I decided last Christmas that I was going to make some for my family. Well they were a HUGE success. After that everyone wanted more and asked if I would sell them so I did. I'm still learning to this day and I'm loving it. My biggest inspirations are also Bridget and Calleye of Sweet Sugarbelle. I love how encouraging they are. And guess what, so are YOU!

  10. Hi, firstly I'd love to say I love both the blog & FB page. I've been cooking for years & love it, I always used to bake my boys cakes for their birthdays but only ever a chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream icing. Then 2 years I was hit by a car & could no longer work. My first 2 grandchildren were born & I needed something to keep my mind off the accident. I bought a cake decorating book & away I went! Since then it's become an obsession, I think about it all the time, I guess my inspiration was my grandkids x

  11. Congratulations Giselle and thank you, Thank You, THANK YOU for sharing!
My earliest inspiration also brought me the joy of all things culinary...my Grandmother. She was simply amazing in the kitchen. Sadly, she is no longer with us but the love of good food she instilled in me is something I hope to pass on to my own children.

  12. I'm following your blog (and FB).

My most recent inspiration is this:
I started my own blog at the end of last month. I love Bridget from Bake at 350 and Kristan from Confessions of a Cookbook Queen is freakin hilarious (I'm so excited the she has a new site). I had read a few food blogs and thought I had to be all proper about things. After reading the blogs these two ladies put out, I realized I could be myself and make my blog whatever I wanted it to be...including more than just food.

I'm looking forward to seeing the fun things you post. I'm already planning on your Dexter cupcakes for next Halloween. Great idea.

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  16. I am following your blog via Networked Blogs and follow you on FB as well! :)
Baking/decorating is new to me and I tend to give up on things because, as you said, we are our own worst critic. But three of my biggest inspirations have been Kara from Cookies in the Cupboard, Stephanie from Ellie's Bites Decorated Cookies, and Loren from The Baking Sheet. I see their work and know that maybe, just maybe someday, I too can decorate as well asd them! And they have been so encouraging to me as well! :)

  17. Hi! I am new to you but not new to baking. Baking is my stress reliever but with a 4yo & a 1 mo old it's difficult to do at this time but I love it and miss it! I'm self taught but have baked for several orders before and like you was told I should start a business. Um...we'll see! I am now following your blog and you on fb.

My Grandpa is my inspiration. He was an amazing godly man. Completely giving of himself, very intelligent, and always followed his passion even as a hobby.
