Simple Polka Dot Heart Cookies

I did not get as much done this weekend as I would have liked to. Did you? Who ever does right?

I had plans of doing lots of photo editing on Saturday, but that didn't happen.

I did have good reason though. See, we have a transformer in our front yard. You know those big boxes that are for electrical stuff. Well my neighbor ran her car into it. Bam NO POWER!

No power=No computer.

Seriously! I have no idea how she managed that.....it's 10 feet into my yard. So I didn't get my pictures edited that I wanted to.

I did however manage to take a nap with the baby, enjoy peace and quiet with the tv off (that was a blessing), and get a foot rub from the hubby. So, it wasn't so bad without power.

Ok....let's talk cookies. These cookies are very simple. So simple that anyone can make them. Really they're that easy. Wanna learn how?

First outline heart with white royal icing and a #2 tip.

Fill cookie with white flood icing.  While icing is still wet, drop black sprinkles onto cookie. I used some flat ones from a Halloween set of sprinkles. You can get them here.

If you have pre-made royal icing hearts you can add one while icing is wet. If not, wait until cookie is dry and pipe one on with a #2 tip and red royal icing.

That's it. Easy as can be.

 I hope y'all have a fabulous Monday.

"You're a Hoot" Valentines Cookies

Whooooo will be my Valentine?

Yeah, I know. Silly aren't I?  Don't you just love silly valentine's sayings? They make me giggle.

It's the simple things in life that make me happy.

Ok that's a lie....SHOES make me happy....and handbags.....and jewelry......and clothes.....

Ya know what, forget what I said about simple things making me happy. I lied.

Great, now I'm a liar and everyone knows. Please still be my friend. I'm lots of fun.....and I make cookies!

So WHOOOO wants to make Owl cookies with me? Sorry couldn't help myself.

Ok really......let's decorate cookies.
Roll out your cookie dough and cut out some circles. Using a leaf cutter make some indentions for the owl's wings. If you are good at doing things free handed then you can skip making the indentions. Bake cookies according to your recipe and allow to cool.

After your cookies are baked and cooled. Use a #2 tip and red piping icing to outline wings.

Fill in wings and let dry about an hour.
Using a #2 tip and pink piping icing add rows of scallops for feathers and outline owl's body.

Fill in feathers first. Alternate sections and give about 20 min to dry in between.
Then fill in the rest of the body. You could skip this step and just fill the entire body in pink without the scalloped feathers.
Let cookie dry.

Using a #12 tip and thicker than flood consistency icing, add two big eyes. Then use a #2 tip to add a black dot to the eyes.
Outline wings in red and scallops in pink.

With a #2 tip add an orange beak and feet.
Let cookie dry completely.

There you have it....a cute owl for whooooever you want to be your valentine.

Love Bird Cookies

Ok, aren't these the cutest cookies? I may be a bit biased. After all I did make them.

But, they are cute. You know they are.

I hope everyone had a great weekend.  My weekend was pretty fabulous. We took our four year old daughter to her first parade. You would think that she would have been to one already, but nope. She was born in Germany. This is the first year we've been in town to go.

She did pretty good. She screamed and waved for beads like a true New Orleans girl......but she quit on us way to early. Lucky for us, our friends brought their camper and had it parked for tired children and small babies.

My hubby was all too happy to lay back in a chair and do kid watch. He's not from New Orleans....he's a Texas boy.

He'll never like parades like I do. It's a sad thing.

So that was my weekend....screaming and acting a fool for some cheap beads.

These cookies were pretty easy to make. Wanna learn how?

Ok here's what you do.....
Roll out cookie dough with a heart shaped cookie cutter. Need a good cookie recipe? You can get mine here. Then cut the hearts in half. I used my dough scraper to cut these. A pizza cutter would work well also.

With a food safe marker and a small heart cutter, trace half of a heart on the cookies towards the bottom center. This will make the birds' wings. Tracing the shape keeps things symmetrical.

With a #2 tip and red royal piping icing, outline each bird's wing. To get this color red I used Tulip red and a tiny bit of Super Red Americolor gel.

Fill in wings with flood consistency red royal icing. Let dry. This helps prevent the colors bleeding.
After the red wings are dry, outline bird's body with blue piping consistency royal icing and a #2 tip.

With flood consistency blue royal icing, fill in bird's body. Let dry overnight.

Using a #12 tip and a little thicker than flood consistency icing, add whites of eyes.

While whites of eyes are still wet, pipe a blue dot using a #4 tip and blue royal icing. I used the same consistency as the whites of eyes.

Add black dot to eye with a #2 tip and black royal icing. Once again same consistency as white and blue of eye.
Add an orange beak. Let cookie dry.

 Have a Happy Monday!

Red Lip Cookies

Let's talk about lips.  I love red lips. Maybe my love for red lips started when I first saw The Rocky Horror Picture show, but every since I was a teenager I always wanted to wear red lipstick.

Of course, my mother would NEVER allow red lipstick. No way, no how. Wasn't gonna happen.  Didn't stop me from wanting to decorate my room with red lips or buy every shirt that had a pair of lips on it......hey I grew up in the 80's, we wore weird stuff.

I fell in love with this red lip sofa when I was in Paris. I had no way of getting it home at the time, or it would have been mine.

Paris 2008

Should have strapped it to the top of the car!

Well I don't own a lip sofa, but I do have some lip cookies. I didn't have a lip cookie cutter, I know hard to believe. I didn't let that stop me. I just made my own template with stencil paper and cut it out by hand.

These cookies are so easy. The hardest thing is the drying time in between sections.

Start with lip shaped sugar cookies. If you need a good recipe you can try my cookie recipe.

With red royal icing and a #2 tip outline the lips. The center line does NOT have to be perfect.
This will make them look more realistic.

Work in sections. First fill in the bottom section with red 20 second royal icing.
Allow to dry for several hours.

After the first section has dried a while, fill top section in. Allow to dry overnight.

There you have it.......some red lips for Valentine's day!

Love Bites Cookies

Valentine's Day......

Let's face it, it's not for single people.  It's a holiday all about love.

When I was single I hated Valentine's day. It was the most dreaded holiday. Everyone was talking about love, getting candy, flowers, jewelry....you name it.

Leaves a single gal feeling quite ALONE!

When your single LOVE BITES! Big time!

So I thought I would make some cookies for those of you out there that are single and feel that love does bite. Or maybe some of you just don't like Valentine's day. After all it is all about mushy gushy love stuff.

Roll out cookie dough and cut with a heart shaped cookie cutter.

Next take a scalloped edged heart and cut a "bite" from the side of the heart.

Remove tiny piece of dough. You will not need this. Bake your cookies at 375˚ for 10-12 min.

Next outline your cookie with red royal icing and a #2 tip. Allow to dry for about 15-30 minutes.

Next with red flood icing, start filling in the cookie.

After the heart is completely filled, be sure to pop any air bubbles with a toothpick or this yellow stick. Let cookie dry overnight.

When cookie is completely dry, using a #1.5 PME tip and white royal icing, pipe LOVE BITES on the cookie. I use stiffer royal icing for this step so the letters don't run.
You could fit the entire words on the cookie or you could have it so that the "S" looks like
it was bitten off.  After the words are piped, let dry for a few hours.

If you wanted a cute idea for a boy's valentine's, You can add a crocodile cookie.

Wanna know how to make the Crocodile? Come back tomorrow and I'll have a tutorial on how to make him. He's really easy to make.

Valentine's Owl cookies

How cute are these? Other than their jacked up eyes. I should NOT have done them first. Or I could have outlined them.

Everyone seemed to go crazy over owls a while back and I just didn't see the excitement until I made these owl cookies back in October. Then I just loved owls too.

Had to even buy the babies some cute owl jammies.

Well here are some Valentine's Day Owls.

My teenage daughter Miss B and I decided instead of giving out Valentine's cards this year, she would give out Valentine's cookies to all her friends. Isn't that a cute idea?.....although now I've gotta make all the cookies.

And when Miss B decided this.....my three year old Miss P decided she was going to need some for her dance class......FYI there is NO dance class. She pretends to have a class all the time and orders cookies from me. Too funny huh?

Maybe when she gets older she will remember actually being in dancing school and I won't have to actually bring her to one. What do you think? Yeah, I didn't think so either.

Now I'm getting the oven heated up for cookies for an imaginary class. Something simple.....maybe imaginary cookies? Just kidding, I couldn't do that to her.

Do your kids do silly things like have imaginary classes? Please tell me she's normal....five kids and this is the first one who has an imaginary something.

You could also make owl cookies with a heart cutter like Sweet Sugarbelle did here and just do them in red and white or pink and white.

Love Letter Cookies

I love writing letters. Traditional letters.....you know the ones with pen and paper.

No Emails or text.

A REAL letter.

Maybe it's the military wife in me. After two deployments I'm a letter writing PRO!

It was the ONLY good thing during the deployment. I wrote my husband every day.

There was just something about buying all the pretty stationery. And lets not forget to spray it with some perfume.

Last but not least, it was sealed with a lipstick kiss or some sort of sticker.

So when making Valentine's day cookies I just had to make a little envelope with a heart on it. Too cute right?

Well they were quite easy too.

You'll need:
rectangle cookies
white royal icing
red royal icing
#2 tip

First outline cookie

Next fill two opposite sections and let dry a few hours.

Then fill top section and allow to dry several hours. Then fill bottom section.
 Let dry a few hours

After cookie is dry pipe details and allow to dry about an hour.

Then outline a heart

Fill heart with red flood icing.
If you want to leave heart as just an outline then do heart before the detail on the envelope.
Mine was an afterthought so the detail was already piped.
